Property Master

I believe the property master has a great deal of influence over the experience the actors have while shooting a feature film. Sometimes key props become icons of the picture or the character, still more often they are subliminal and hidden. However, the actors who must touch them, use them, interact with them will always feel a connection to the objects in hand. By providing the character with the right materials and shapes, convincing them that the item in hand is indeed their belonging; will allow the actors to draw on that magic of the familiar, and deliver an even more compelling performance.

Prep

It is important to find the right props for each and every character. Knowing where to look saves time and effort. Through years of experience I have gained valuable knowledge of where to find the items that add a physical reality to the characters written.

Sometimes having a vivid imagination backs writers, directors and myself into a corner; where I am looking for items that simply do not exist. Having skills in industrial design, model making, metal and woodworking I have the means to bring imagine fiction into reality.

Shoot

Finding and creating the physical reality of movies isn’t enough in itself. Items used on a show over weeks or months, perhaps even years will need special care and maintenance. Knowing how to keep props organized, safe and accessible is a huge part of the job. I like to document the entire process of what I find where, how it gets treated, where it may need repair.

Post

After a show I take special pride in making sure that nothing is lost and everything has a documented place.
Whether it is for a photo shoot, further re-shoots or an upcoming sequel, the continuity of props I find especially important in maintaining the illusion of our created fictional time and space.
